Springboard have already been able to come alongside various new initiatives in Reading and the surrounding areas, having provided funding and support – please see below some information from a few of these groups

Solar Schools

We are extremely grateful to you for the very generous donation to the Solar School project and are delighted that the solar panels are now installed at New Town Primary School, cutting our carbon emissions and saving on fuel bills. It is a valuable asset that will continue to bring these savings for 25 years or more, so many children and families will benefit over the long-term.

Cafe B

Café B opened its doors to the local Burghfield Community in March. We were amazed to see a queue of customers outside the door on the very first day, and since then we have been pretty much full every session (less so on rainy days!). Feedback from the community so far is very positive; they like the ambiance, the coffee, the hot chocolate, the cakes and the jacket potatoes and cheese and ham paninis. If there is something our customers don’t like, our volunteers ask them about it, then change it. We are extremely fortunate to have the continued support and backing of our hosts, the Burghfield Methodist Church, and we hope to extend opening hours to Wednesdays in the near future (subject to appropriate permissions). We are also so grateful to our volunteers, who come from a wide range of local denominations, and who are actively living out their faith in the community through this work. It’s clear that they enjoy working at the Café, forging new friendships and networks with Christians and non-Christians alike.

Thank you again Springboard, for understanding our vision and helping us to make this a reality. We do believe, that through Café B, we are sharing God’s love in and making a difference to our local community.

CCA – Chalk Based Paint

CCA received a grant from yourselves for chalk paint to improve some items of furniture we get donated and then sell in our charity furniture outlet. We thought you might like to see some pictures of what we've done with this money. We have painted over 60 pieces of furniture and raised at least £2000 as a result.

Thank you once again from all the team at the CCA Furniture Outlet.

School Pastors

Together in Mission is on course to start its School Pastors project at the Willink School, Burghfield Common, in September 2012.

Since our presentation to Springboard earlier in the year, we have signed an agreement with the Ascension Trust, to deliver the project in partnership with them and to insource their expertise and School Pastor branding. Our "official name" will be Burghfield and Area School Pastors; contact details are given below.

We have now employed a Co-ordinator, Dawn Crawford, and are currently recruiting the volunteer School Pastors. We will trial the project with one team of four School Pastors in the Autumn term 2012. The main launch, with three or four teams, will take place in the Lent term 2013. The scheme will run for one year in the first instance. Each School Pastor will commit to a minimum "duty" of four hours a week and will receive approximately 20 hours of training.

TiM has set up a separate Management Board, accountable to TiM, to run the project. But we work very closely with the Willink to fit School Pastors to their requirements and we have received much help and encouragement from the School. The vision is not only to benefit the students but to support as, far as possible, the whole school community and to create strong local partnerships.

Still the Hunger

On 1st November 2011 Still the Hunger launched the Structured Day Programme for people in Reading with enduring mental health conditions. The vision was to open a centre where people can support each other as they seek to change old patterns of negative and dysfunctional behaviour within a facilitated self help group environment. Our aim is to make a lasting difference to people’s lives rather than simply alleviating the symptoms of current difficulties.

We made an appeal to Springboard for assistance with the rent for the room where we will be based. With the rent covered for most of our first year this has allowed us time to apply for other funding while being able to get the day programme running.

Without Springboard we simply wouldn’t be at this stage today so we’re very grateful – thank you!
