Engage Befriending

Engage Befriending connects isolated older people with their communities by matching them with a volunteer befriender. Our volunteers visit older people in their homes and can take them out on trips. We also signpost to other organisations, local activities and events.

STILL THE HUNGER

On 1st November 2011 Still the Hunger launched the Structured Day Programme for people in Reading with enduring mental health conditions. The vision was to open a centre where people can support each other as they seek to change old patterns of negative and dysfunctional behaviour within a facilitated self help group environment.

Super Hero Holiday Club

We are a group of churches who work together to put on a Summer Holiday Club for Oxford Road Community School. We had our first ever club in 2014 which went really well with about 30 children. We had loads of fun, especially with the superhero theme, and two of our leaders dressed up as apprentice superheroes: Lunar Lucy and Incredible Clive!

READIFOOD

ReadiFood provide emergency food parcels to people in need in the Greater Reading area.  Parcels are only given by a referral process from local government and other agencies.  We are currently giving away over 6,000 parcels per year at a total value of around £70,000.  Support from Springboard has enabled us to keep our delivery van on the road and cover costs of hiring larger vans as and when required.

REVIVE

Through activities such as furniture painting and mosaic making, Revive seeks to encourage creativity in people who are finding life hard and challenging, for whatever reason. In autumn 2013, Springboard awarded Revive a grant which enabled weekly sessions to be offered both at CIRDIC (Churches in Reading Drop in Centre) and CIRWC (Churches in Reading Women’s Centre) in 2013-4.
